Thursday, October 22 at 7:30pm: Butoh: Cradling Empty Space Virtual Book Launch with author Vangeline and guests via Facebook Live. The first nonfiction book published by the New York Butoh Institute, Butoh: Cradling Empty Space explores butoh through a scientific lens, challenging the current gender bias and shedding light onto this mysterious and often misunderstood art form. The winners of our book giveaway will be announced live.

Friday, October 23 at 8pm, Red Flag on the Red Planet, live performance by Vanessa Skantze (Seattle), followed by a discussion with the artist.

Saturday, October 24, at 5pm and 8pm: Rising of the Unchained Silent Screams, a solo created and performed by Tebby W. T. Ramasike (South Africa) via Zoom followed by a discussion with the artist.

Sunday, October 25, 1 to 4pm: Afrobutoh workshop with Tebby W. T. Ramasike (South Africa) via Zoom. Afro-Butoh is a concept that describes and relates to the work of Tebby W.T. Ramasike, a South African choreographer, dancer and butoh practitioner. Butoh is an expressive contemporary dance/performance art created by Tatsumi Hijikata in Japan in the 1950-1960s, known for its unconventional nature. African dance strives to provide a great reconciliation of the mind and body, thought and instinct, by freeing the gestures and letting go in the rhythm. The spiritual journey of Butoh and African dance, Afro-Butoh, is a process that leads us to search deep in ourselves, within our being, to discover and explore our latent qualities in the development of our personality: physically, intellectually, socially, spiritually.
